Yanagida usually uses a bat that gradually thickens from the grip to the tip, but in this at-bat he used a torpedo bat that was thickest near the middle and tapered slightly at the tip. He hit a fly ball to shortstop against Hanshin Tigers 's Takahashi of the Central League.
