Rakuten Eagles lost their first game against Lotte in a series that saw them lack brilliance in both pitching and hitting, extending their losing streak to three games. Manager Yoshii has now lost all five games against Lotte, the team he managed until last season, and has yet to win a game against them.

Hayakawa, who started the game, pitched five innings, going 10 hit including two Home Run and 8 runs, marking his fourth loss. His 8 runs was his worst of the season. In the first inning, Yasuda hit a timely doble to give up two runs, and in the second, he gave up a three-run homer to Soto for four runs. In the third, Sato hit a solo homer, and in the fifth, Yamamoto hit a timely hit, giving up his eighth run.

The batting lineup was unable to mount a comeback, as they were held runs through six innings by Lotte's starting pitcher, Kojima.
