The previous day, on the 15th, he had thrown 32 pitches. He got the leadoff batter, Kurokawa, out on a ground ball to second base, but then gave up a home run to Tatsumi. The first pitch, a 151 km/h fastball, was hit over the right field fence, extending the lead to two runs. With two outs, he then gave up doble to Murabayashi, and then allowed a timely single to Watanabe Yoshi before being taken out of the game.
