Orix Buffaloes infielder Bob Seymour started at first base, batting eighth, but grounded out in his first at-bat, extending his hitless hit to 40 consecutive plate appearances.

In the second inning, immediately after giving up the first run, Wakatsuki hit doble to left-center field with two outs. With two outs and a runner on second base, he had a chance to tie the game with one hit, but he struck struck out looking against Softbank Hawks 's Maeda Yu on a 2-2 count.

Orix Buffaloes fans in the right-field stands chanted, "Timely hit, timely hit, timely hit, Bob!" But in an instant, their voices turned into sighs.
