Seibu Lions announced on the 8th that Shinya Hasegawa underwent surgery to remove the hamate bone in his left leg. He will now undergo rehabilitation, and it is expected to take approximately two months before he can return to playing.

Hasegawa fractured his left hamate bone when he hit a ground ball to third base in his third at-bat during the game against Softbank Hawks on the 1st, and was removed from the active roster the following day, the 2nd.

This season, he recorded a .367 batting average in the interleague series, winning the hitter title. He made a significant contribution to the team's first-ever interleague championship, including two consecutive walk-off hits against Hiroshima on June 9th and 10th, and was selected as the Most Valuable Player.
