Rakuten Eagles lost the first game of the series, suffering their second consecutive defeat.

Starting pitcher Shoji threw 107 pitches over 5 innings, giving up 6 hit, 4 Walk, and 4 runs, resulting in his eighth loss. He hasn't earned a win in over two months since his fourth win against Nippon-Ham on May 5th.

Although he gave up a runner from the start, he managed to hold on, but in the 4th inning, he was in trouble with one out and runners on second due to Ishii's doble, and gave up a go-ahead RBI single to An-Ko Lin.
