Orix Buffaloes Atsuya Kogita pitcher announced that he underwent medial collateral ligament reconstruction surgery on his right elbow at a hospital in Osaka Prefecture. After a few days in the hospital, he plans to begin rehabilitation with the goal of returning to competition in one year.Ogita underwent a similar procedure in April 2025 and re-signed as a developmental player during the offseason. In December of that year, he had a bone fragment removed from his right elbow, and he also underwent a debridement procedure this past March.
By early June, he had recovered enough to bullpen pitch, but immediately after, he developed a problem with his right elbow. Just as he believed in his comeback through the first reconstruction surgery, he was struck by an accident. In 2023, when he won three consecutive league championships, he was a reliever with an impressive record of 4 wins and 7 hold in 38 games. He said, "I want to pitch again. I want to contribute to Orix Buffaloes," and once again faced a harsh reality.
