◆ Pacific League: Softbank Hawks vs. Seibu Lions (August 2nd, Mizuho PayPay)
Seibu Lions outfielder Shinya Hasegawa was removed from the active roster on the 2nd due to a fracture of the hamate bone in his left hand.
He started as the fifth batter and first baseman in the game against Softbank Hawks on the 1st (Mizuho PayPay Stadium). He was injured when he hit a ground ball to third base in his third at-bat in the 7th inning, and after the game he went to the hospital and was diagnosed with a fracture of the hamate bone in his left hand. He did not appear at pre-game practice that day.
Hasegawa, who played in 16 interleague games and recorded 22 hit in 60 at-At Bat for a batting average of .367, 2 Home Run, and 9 RBI, was awarded the Most Valuable Player award. In the games against Hiroshima on the 9th and 10th (at Belluna Dome), he hit walk-off hits in two consecutive games, greatly contributing to the team's first-ever interleague championship. He is the first Seibu Lions player to receive the award, and it is the first time in NPB history that a player who came up through the development program has received the award.
The team lost the match on June 30th, dropping from first place for the first time in about a month. This is likely to be a major blow, as they have not been able to gain momentum since the league resumed, with a record of 3 wins and 8 losses in 11 matches.
