In the first inning, Mizutani led off with a single to left field, followed by sacrifice bunt by Mizuno and Walk Reyes, putting doble on first and second with two outs. Mizutani then hit a timely double down the right field line. Manager Shinjo had created the opportunity by using sacrifice bunt in the first inning, and Mizutani delivered the result.

He made the most of his first chance, commenting, "I hit fork. Everyone had created this opportunity for me, so I really wanted to capitalize on it. I felt like if I didn't get a hit here, things would just spiral downwards, so I'm glad we were able to score first."

In the game on the 23rd, he was used as the cleanup hitter, but went hitless hit once in his first three at struck out bats. In the 7th inning, Mizutani was replaced by a pinch hitter.
