Nippon-Ham 's starting pitcher, Leo Shibata, was forced to leave the game in the middle of the third inning after giving up one runs due to an unfortunate incident. He was unable to secure his first professional win.

In the first inning, he threw a fastball that reached a maximum speed of 155 km/h, and breaking ball were also effective, resulting in a start with three consecutive struck out. In the second inning, he hit a batter with Hit by Pitch, but he got out of the inning without giving up any runs, including striking out Kawase struck out.

However, in the third inning, he allowed the first hit of the game to Umino, a single to right field, and the next batter, Nomura, line drive to the side pitcher. He twisted his body towards first base to avoid it, but the ball hit the back of his right hand and rolled past second baseman into outfield.

With no outs and runners on first and third, he gave up a deep fly ball to right field to Masaki, who followed at bat, and was pulled from the game after the opposing team took the lead at sacrifice fly. As Shibata returned to the dugout, he was once again greeted with a round of applause.

Hori took the mound as the second pitcher. He shut down the subsequent batters, and Shibata pitched 2 1/3 innings, allowing 2 hit and 1 runs strike out 4.
