Nippon-Ham 's starting pitcher, Leo Shibata, suffered an unfortunate accident when he was hit directly by a batted ball.

In the third inning, with no outs and a runner on first base, Nomura's hit struck the back of his right hand. The ball bounced past second baseman and rolled into outfield, resulting in runners on first and third base with no outs.

The coach immediately rushed to mound and headed to the dugout. bullpen began preparing in a flurry, but Shibata, having finished his treatment, returned to mound with a smile. He was greeted with loud cheers and applause from the stands.

Shibata was then replaced by Masaki, who hit a long ball to right field, resulting in sacrifice fly to right field that gave the opposing team the lead. As Shibata left the mound, he was once again given a big round of applause.
