Nippon-Ham pitcher Sachiya Yamazaki (33) played as both the number 7 pitcher, showcasing his "two-way" abilities, but went 0-At Bat-3 hit, failing to set a new Pacific League pitcher record of six consecutive seasons with hit. He grounded out to third base in his first at-bat, flied out to center field in his second, and hit a foul fly to third base in his third.

As pitcher, his main job, he made his first start of the season and delivered a brilliant performance, pitching 5 2/3 innings, allowing only 4 hit and no runs.
