Orix Buffaloes manager Kishida praised Wakatsuki for becoming the 544th player in professional baseball history to reach 1,000 career games played. Kishida himself had the experience of being the battery partner with Wakatsuki during his playing days. "I think so too (about the number he has accumulated). I'm sure there were times when he was completely battered and bruised, but even then, that kid didn't complain about the pain or the itchiness and just kept playing with all his might. I think it's wonderful," he said, offering his words of encouragement.

On this day, he led Kuri to just one runs eight innings, and in the sixth inning, he hit a timely doble to right field. The manager nodded and said, "He hasn't changed (from before). He's always been a mentally strong kid. He prepares thoroughly every single day and approaches the game with real confidence. He plays with both care and boldness, always thinking about the opponent and the team."
