On the 20th, Orix Buffaloes announced that, as previously reported by Sports Hochi, pitcher Hiroya Miyagi (24) underwent reconstructive surgery on his left elbow's ulnar collateral ligament in the United States. In his seventh professional season, he complained of discomfort in his left elbow during a game against Lotte on April 9th (Kyocera Dome) and was forced to leave the game in the middle of the 6th inning. The following day, on the 10th, he was diagnosed with a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow at a hospital in Osaka City and had undergone detailed examinations at multiple hospitals.
Like Yamashita, who has already undergone ulnar collateral ligament reconstruction surgery in the United States, he hopes to return to competition in about a year, faster than traditional Tommy John surgery. After careful discussions with the team, he determined that having the surgery in the United States was the best course of action. Like Yamashita, a return this season is unlikely. Manager Kishida emphasized, "I believe he will come back even better. I'm not worried."
