Hirooka Hiroshi

On the 20th, Orix Buffaloes infielder underwent surgery to remove a herniated lumbar disc at a hospital in Hyogo Prefecture. In his 11th professional season, he was in the starting starting line-up at the start of the season, but in the game against Seibu Lions on April 16th (Kyocera Dome Osaka), where he started as the leadoff hitter and third baseman, he complained of lower back stiffness and was replaced after just one at-bat. He missed the game against Softbank Hawks Hawks on the 17th (Mizuho PayPay Dome), and the following day, the 18th, he was removed from the active roster due to lower body discomfort. Following pitcher Shumpeita Yamashita and Hiroya Miyagi, who underwent medial collateral ligament reconstruction surgery, the team has now had another player undergo surgery.

He joined Yakult in 2015 as the second overall pick in the draft from Chiben Gakuen High School in Nara, and after playing for the Yomiuri The Giants, he joined Orix Buffaloes in May 2023 in his second trade. In his 10th professional season last year, he played third base and outfield at a high level and cleared the required number of plate appearances for the first time in his career. He won the popular "Orix Member Vote" event, in which female fans choose their favorite player, for the second year in a row. Although he struggled this season with a batting average of .191 and 3 RBI in 13 games, he had grown into an indispensable presence for the team both on and off the field, so he will be working hard on his rehabilitation with the aim of returning as soon as possible.
