Seibu Lions narrowly defeated Softbank Hawks who were tied with them in the standings, to achieve their first five-game winning streak of the season and move up to second place.

In the fifth inning, with no outs and a runner on first base infielder Kazunari Ishii hit his second home run of the season, a two-run shot, to give his team the lead. In the seventh inning, with one out and runners on first and third defense, Hasegawa hit a timely single to right field through the gap between first and second base, adding a crucial run.

Starting pitcher Yutaro Watanabe pitcher pitched 6 2/3 innings, pitching 8 hit and runs, marking his second win since the game against Nippon-Ham on April 17 (at ESCON). With runners on first and second and one out, he got Kurihara out to center and Yamakawa to swing and miss struck out. He carried runner every inning through the fourth inning, but in the fifth inning, a teammate's good defense helped him retire all three batters in order. With two outs in the seventh inning, Walk was given, and manager Nishiguchi announced the substitution. The second batter, Hayato Sato, retired Shuto to shortstop.

Watanabe's losing streak against Softbank Hawks also came to an end at five games.
