It was Mother's Day that day. Two Seibu Lions hitter using bright pink "Mother's Day bats" had driven in all five RBI by the end of the fifth inning, giving the team an advantage in the game thanks to the "Mother's Day effect."

infielder Tyler Nevin (28) hit a go-ahead doble that hit the right field wall with two outs and a runner on first in the first inning, and then hit his fourth home run of the season, a solo shot over left field, for a total of two hit and two RBI. "I was off balance, but I'm glad it went over wall," he said with a satisfied expression.

With one out bases loaded in the second inning, the second Manaya Nishikawa outfielder (26) used a pink bat, hitting glove, and wristband to add a run in the middle sacrifice fly. In the fourth inning, with one out and two on, he hit a two-run shot over the right field wall for the first RBI run of the game.
