He retired the side in order in the first and second innings. In the third inning, with one out, he faced a bases-loaded situation after a bunt hit and an unlucky hit, but closer the next bases loaded out with a struck out and a groundout to the shortstop.

He retired the side in order in the fourth inning and kept runs in the fifth. He also retired the side in order in the sixth inning to close it out, and handed the ball over to the second pitcher, Teranishi, in the seventh inning.
