In the seventh inning with one out, Nippon-Ham 's Gunji swung at a two-seam two seam fastball thrown by Rakuten Eagles 's Shoji. Gunji's broken bat hit home-base umpire Nagakawa near the head. Rakuten Eagles 's catcher Ota and Nippon-Ham 's trainer approached anxiously, but home-base umpire Nagakawa, who was wearing helmet, gestured that he was fine. There were no serious injuries, and play resumed without incident.
