Seibu Lions and Takumi Kuriyama outfielder, who have announced their retirement at the end of this season, made their first appearances of the season on the 18th and Nippon-Ham (ESCON).

Kuriyama joined the first team on the 17th and was registered as a player for the day. He started on the bench but came in as a pinch hitter in the bottom of the ninth inning with two outs and runners on first and second base, trailing by three runs, and hit a single to center hit. This marks Kuriyama's 23rd consecutive season hit. He is tied with Takeya Nakamura (23 consecutive seasons as of 2013) for the longest streak in team history. He is the third player in team history, after Katsuya Nomura and Kazuo Matsui, to record hit in a season at the age of 43 or older.

On social media, there were joyful comments such as, "Kuriyama's return to center fielder was so cool..." and "Of course, it's Kuriyama! We need Takumi Kuriyama!!!"
