outfielder Masayuki Kuwahara, who transferred from DeNA as a free agent last offseason, hit his first Home Run since the transfer on the 5th.

He played as the leadoff hitter and left fielder. In the third inning, trailing by one run, he swung at a curveball from opposing starting pitcher Fujiwara, a first-round draft pick, on a 0-1 count, sending the ball soaring into the left-field stands filled with Seibu Lions fans. It was his first solo Home Run of the season in his 35th at-bat in nine games. He rounded the bases amidst thunderous cheers and reflected, "I swung with all my might to give the team momentum. I'm glad it turned out well."
