Nippon-Ham infielder Yuki Nomura (25) hit a go-ahead three-run homer to the right field bullpen in his fourth at-bat in the 7th inning with two outs and runners on first and second base, connecting with Yamazaki's 153 km/h fastball.

In the fifth inning, Nishikawa also hit a three-run homer, bringing the team's total to 20 home runs in the first eight games of the season. This surpasses the 19 home runs hit by Seibu Lions in 1991, setting a new Pacific League record. The league record for most home runs in the first eight games of the season is 22 by Hanshin Tigers in 1985. With their main slugger Reyes sidelined due to a heel injury, Shinjo's Ham Fighters' powerful batting lineup has truly come into its own.
