After giving up the first run in the first inning, in the bottom of the inning, with one out, the second batter, Nomura, got on base with an infield hit down third base line and then stole second base. After that, with two outs, the fourth batter, Yamakawa, with a 2-2 count, hit breaking ball near the middle of the plate to left field despite being off-speed, and Nomura scored. The fourth batter's crucial timely hit immediately tied the game.
