　侍ジャパンの周東佑京外野手（３０）が「７番・中堅」でＷＢＣ２大会目で初スタメン。７回無死の３打席目に自身初安打を放った。平凡な遊ゴロかと思われたが、俊足で内野安打に。続く中村の打席で二盗に成功した。さらに１点を先制した直後の８回２死二、三塁では右翼席に３ランを放った。
