Samurai Japan's Seibu Lions Chihiro Sumida pitcher (26) made his first WBC appearance in second place in place from the 5th inning when the score was tied at 0-0. He went 2 hit 1 runs (0 earned), 7 strike out innings. The fastest was measured at 153 km. WBC7 strike out in relief became a tie record for the most in Japan, tied with Togo against China in 23 and Miyagi against the Czech Republic in the same year.
