WBC First Round Group C Taiwan vs Japan (6th, Tokyo Dome)

Samurai Japan's Sosuke Genda infielder (33) successfully took on the challenge and produced Ohtani's first grand slam. In the second inning, with no outs on first and second base, the first pitch of the inside angle fastball grazed the uniform. At one point, Genda appealed to home-base umpire for the ball decision, and the umpire team confirmed it. As a result of the video judgment, the judgment was overturned in Hit by Pitch. This tournament was the first successful challenge for the samurai. After that, it was bases loaded with one out, and Ohtani hit a grand slam to give Japan the lead.
