2026 Taiwan-Japan baseball International Exchange Game Taiwan vs. Softbank Hawks (26th, Taipei Dome)
Softbank Hawks 's president, Sadaharu Oh (85), spoke at a press conference before the friendly match against the Taiwanese team in the WBC at Taipei Dome, and expressed his hopes for the best for both the Japanese and Taiwanese teams. "I hope there will be more exchanges between Japan and Taiwan. If we can both improve our level, it will be beneficial for both of us," he said, calling for continued close cooperation between the two sides.
Chairman Wang is also a hero in Taiwan. Samurai Japan will face Taiwan in their first WBC match (March 6th), the champions of the Premier12 in the fall of 2024. Watching the batting practice, he expressed his hopes, saying, "I feel that their strength is getting closer to that of Japan. I think we can put up a very good fight. I hope the Taiwanese team will do their best, and if possible, I would like to go (to the US) with them."
He was praised by the local media as a "god" and "someone to look up to," but he replied, "If you look up to him, you'll never be able to catch up." He wished for the birth of a new star with words similar to those of the famous quote by Ohtani of the Dodgers before the 2023 World Baseball Classic final.
On the same day, Chairman Wang met with Taiwan's President Lai Ching-te at the Presidential Office Building in Taipei and was awarded the First Class Star Medal.
