Softbank Hawks Hawks manager Hiroki Kokubo praised the Samurai Japan's number 1 and number 2 batting combination.

For Japan, Kensuke Kondo outfielder lined up at "No. 1, right wing", Ukyo Shuto outfielder and Softbank Hawks at "No. 2, center field", and Taisei Makihara infielder at "No. 6, DH". The first inning defense saw a run score in the front attack. Yu Maeda, the starter, allowed Kondo to hit a single up the middle and gave up Walk to Shuto with no outs and runners on first and second. From there, he gave up three straight hits to the cleanup of Maki, Sato, and Morishita, and then gave up four runs to Genda in the seventh on a timely hit up the middle.

In the second inning, with one out, consecutive hits from Kondo and Shuto resulted in two runs scored against them. They were the catalyst for the 13-run rally, and manager Kokubo smiled and applauded, saying, "I'm glad they were on my team. Those first two hitters were really something." Makihara also hit a single to right field with two outs in the fifth inning, showing the presence of Softbank Hawks players.
