Seiryu Kotajima

It was announced on the 20th that Orix Buffaloes pitcher Seiryu Kotajima (26) will join the Miyazaki training camp on the 21st. He underwent right elbow cleaning surgery in September 2013 and has been undergoing rehabilitation in stages. He has been training as a member of the remaining team at Maishima in Osaka since February 1st. He has already pitched consecutively in bullpen. He has recovered to the point where he can consider pitch in a real game.

As a rookie in 2012, Furutajima was a key reliever, posting 24 hold in 50 games with ERA of 0.79. In 2013, he posted 6 hold in 20 games with ERA 4.42. At one point, he was asked to adjust to being a starter, but team circumstances made it difficult for him to continue as a reliever. He is a passionate right-hander who steps up in a pinch and captures the attention of fans with his championship-caliber fist pump. Right-pitcher Taketo Ashida (26), in his third year of development and a member of the team that stayed with Furutajima, is also scheduled to join the Miyazaki training camp on the 21st.
