Appearing on "Professional baseball News 2026" broadcast on Fuji TV ONE on the 16th, Shohei Tateyama commented on the "southpaw duo" of Orix Buffaloes 'Hiroya Miyagi and Ryuhei Sotani, who were selected to represent Japan in the WBC.

Tateyama said, "Just like during the regular season, I have very high hopes for these two players in the WBC." He explained the reason, saying, "We have a variety of starting pitcher, but we need a second starter, and each of them is a left-handed pitcher with a distinctive curveball and slider. If these two can support the team with a good tempo, it will be beneficial for Japan in the WBC."

He speculated, "If he can continue to inning in that good condition, I think he'll be able to adjust properly as a starting pitcher when he returns to Orix Buffaloes."
