Orix Buffaloes manager Mamoru Kishida (44) expressed his expectations for Yamashita, who will be playing in his first exhibition game of 2026 against Samty on the 18th (at SOKKEN), on the 17th. The 161 km/h right-hander has been focusing on a pitching form that doesn't put strain on his lower back, which had been a problem until 2025, during the Miyazaki training camp, and he recorded a top speed of 154 km/h in his first live BP (batting practice in a game-like format) appearance on the 15th. "He seems to be in good health, so that's the first thing that's good. I hope he can give it his all," Kishida nodded.

In addition to Espinoza and Teranishi, Yamaoka, who has returned to the starting rotation this season, is also scheduled to pitch in the game. "I hope he can make use of his experience from last year (as reliever). We will see how well he can pitch," he emphasized.
