On the 6th, Orix Buffaloes Ryuhei Sotani pitcher Ryuhei Soya (25) threw his third bullpen pitch during the Miyazaki training camp. The fourth-year left-hander, who was first selected to represent Japan in the World Baseball Classic in March, threw 35 pitches in front of Daisuke Matsuzaka (45), who has been named MVP in two consecutive tournaments since the first one. He revealed that it was his first time meeting the legendary right-hander, saying with a sparkle in his eyes, "I was nervous (laughs). It was like facing the world, and I'm not just talking about technique, but I'd love to hear about his mindset towards the game (in the TV interview afterwards)."

On this day, he exchanged signs with fellow Japanese catcher Wakatsuki using the PitchCom system, which follows tournament rules. "I was able to hear the sound (of the equipment) and was able to do it without any problems. (At the tournament) I hope to be able to exchange opinions with catcher and clearly communicate my feelings, such as which ball has priority," he said.

His next appearance will be in live BP (batting practice in a real game setting) on the 8th. Regarding the ball used in the tournament, he said, "I'm starting to feel a sense of accomplishment. It still wobbles a little when I control it with my hand, so I'd like to work on it more," promising to make it more familiar to his hands.
