Sho Nakata, who retired from professional baseball at the end of last season, made a surprise visit to Nippon-Ham' training camp on the 6th. In the morning, he visited the second team's camp in Kunigami, and then went to the Nago outfielder Haruki Nishikawa others with whom he had shared both triumphs and hardships in the past.
In Nago, he observed batting practice and other activities. He watched each player's batting while talking with batting coach Yokoo and others. When asked about the reason for his visit, he said, "Personally, I wanted to say a few words to Haruki, telling him to do his best. I hadn't originally planned to come, but I was able to go to Kunigami to say hello and say hello to the people who helped me, so it was good."
On this day too, Nishikawa practiced batting while receiving direct advice from manager Shinjo. Seeing him trying different things, Shinjo said, "He's working on various things, and it's not always going to work out, so I think he's thinking about various things and of course struggling as he goes along." He then added, "I want to see Haruki Nishikawa shining again, getting on base a lot, running a lot, and winning stolen base title year after year, and he can still run. I wouldn't be so harsh as to tell a player who can't run anymore to run, and I think he can still run. I want him to show us that he can still be a top player, and as a fan, I want to support Haruki like that."
