On the 8th, Nippon-Ham announced that Keisuke Tanimoto (41) will be appointed as a pitcher coach and Yohei Kagiya (36) will be appointed as an assistant pitcher coach and assistant pitcher coordinator starting next season.
This season, Tanimoto served as a batting pitcher on the team staff, while Kagiya belonged to the Baseball Operations of the Team Management Division. Their numbers have been decided as '70' for Tanimoto and '89' for Kagiya. On the 8th, the final day of the fall camp, both attended a press conference together after the wrap-up.
Kagiyama, who pitched in a total of 420 games for Nippon-Ham and The Giants, will continue in a role that involves traveling between the first team in Hokkaido and the second team in Chiba Prefecture, similar to the position he held for the past two years. In this capacity, he will strive to act as a bridge between the players and the coaching staff. Emphasizing his role, he stated, 'I hope to become someone who can facilitate solid communication,' and expressed his determination by adding, 'A single word from me can be interpreted in many different ways. I want to treat my words with great care.'
Tanimoto, who pitched in a total of 524 games for Nippon-Ham and Chunichi during his playing days, expressed his aspirations, saying, 'I want to become a coach who is firmly relied upon and can provide solid advice when asked.' He also mentioned pitcher Nao Miyanishi, who is one year his junior and will also become a player-coach starting next season, stating, 'Being a player-coach is a first-time experience. Since it is a trial-and-error situation, I hope to compensate for any areas where he might be lacking, even if only a little.'
