Orix Buffaloes infielder Taishi Hirooka (29) revealed his determination to reclaim a regular spot on the 7th. The team is facing a crisis as Mune and Nakagawa have exercised their domestic free agency rights, creating a possibility of them leaving for other clubs. The versatile player, capable of playing both the infield and outfield at a high level, has clearly set his goals.

Anyway, I need to make sure I can get into the games. I believe I have to start preparing now with that as my top priority. Last year, in his tenth year, he reached the required number of plate appearances for the first time. He proved his value by playing primarily at third base and center field, positions usually held by Mune and Nakagawa. With a renewed sense of determination, he said, There might be various situations, but I just have to do what I can. There has also been a significant change in his mindset.

This season, he underwent back surgery and appeared in only 16 games. Returning to the lineup for the first time in five months during the September 27th game against the Softbank Hawks (Mizuho PayPay), he showcased his characteristic power by hitting his first solo home run of the season. 'I realized that being able to play baseball is not something to take for granted. I am truly grateful,' he said. On this day, he participated in autumn practice as part of the remaining squad in Maishima, Osaka, working to strengthen both his physical fitness and technical skills. Hirooka's comeback will also serve as a significant 'reinforcement' for the team. (Toru Osada)
