On the 2nd, Rakuten Eagles manager Masato Yoshii visited the Rakuten Group headquarters in Tokyo with GM Kazuhisa Ishii and others to meet with owner Hiroshi Mikitani. They reported on matters regarding the 2026 season and other topics. Manager Yoshii stated, '(Owner Mikitani) told me that while the results were disappointing, it was a battle that will lead into next year.'
This season, the team languished in last place from the very beginning. In June, former manager Miki took a leave of absence, leading to the unusual mid-season appointment of Manager Yoshii. They ultimately finished in last place with a record of 58 wins, 84 losses, and 1 draw. Nevertheless, under the new commander, there were many positive signs toward the end of the season, such as the emergence of young talent.
Owner Mikitani reportedly praised the fact that the young players were able to gain experience. They also discussed future challenges. The manager revealed, "I was told to do my best in various ways so that the players can think for themselves and play baseball, and so that we can become a true baseball team."
On October 30, they acquired Kai from The Giants through a cash trade. They succeeded in reinforcing the team with an experienced catcher. The manager expressed high expectations, saying, "He is very experienced and has belonged to strong teams. I want him to use his strength to lead the young players so that The Eagles can win even one more game."
The goal for next season is a league victory. 'It's the championship. Of course, it's the championship. There isn't a single team that isn't aiming for the title, so we will work toward winning it,' they said with emphasis.
