"I am truly grateful that so many people came to donate today and spoke to me. There was no damage in my immediate vicinity, but some of the places in Narita City that were flooded are places I used to go to when I was little, and it breaks my heart to see them on the news. I hope that the feelings you all have shown me today will reach those affected by the disaster. I have the opportunity to be the first to take the mound tomorrow, and I hope that at least one person will be encouraged by seeing me. I want to show a strong and capable performance."
