On the 30th, the Orix Buffaloes officially announced the appointment of scout Satoshi Komatsu as the second-team pitcher coach. He joined the Orix Buffaloes via the 2006 draft hope category from the corporate team JR Kyushu. In 2008, his second professional year, he was crowned Rookie of the Year with an excellent record of 15 wins, 3 losses, 3 holds, and a 2.51 ERA in 36 games. In 2009, he participated in the 2nd WBC as a member of the Japanese national team, contributing to their consecutive world titles. He retired from active play at the end of 2016.

From the following year, 2017, he served as a minor league pitcher coach, and in 2020, he was a major league pitcher coach. He transitioned to scouting in 2021, and at the draft meeting this October, pitcher Futo Tsunoda from Fuji University, whom he was in charge of, was selected as the first-round pick.

He decided to return to the path of coaching after receiving an offer from the team, stating, 'During my time as a scout, I wanted to grow together with the players I had a connection with. I accepted this role with the desire to win together again.' He continued, 'I do have some special feelings for the players I was personally responsible for, but I consider every player to be a part of our competitive strength, so I don't want to have any biased feelings. I want to treat everyone with affection so that we can truly increase the depth of our first-team roster.'

Regarding the first-round draft pick Kakuta, he promised his support, saying, 'Since I will be involved on the farm team side, it is basically better if he does not have to deal with me (laughs). However, in terms of his first year, it is a time to learn many things. If anything comes up, I want to help him out.' He also expressed his feelings for Manager Kishida, who is in the same age group, stating, 'I cannot lightly say that I will make the manager a winner. I will do my absolute best so that I can ultimately be of help to him.'
