On the 26th, the Softbank Hawks announced that they have notified eight developmental players—pitchers Yuwa Miyasato, Toya Kawaguchi, Sota Tanoue, Jumpei Okaue, and Akito Sasaki, catcher Kota Makihara, and outfielders Kaito Shigematsu and Kota Sato—that their contracts will not be renewed for the upcoming season.
Tanoue joined the team as the 5th draft pick in 2020 from Riseisha. He pitched in two games in his second year, but in February 2024, he developed Langerhans cell histiocytosis, a rare disease where cell tissue proliferates and causes functional impairment in various organs. Nevertheless, he overcame the illness and returned to the mound.
Miyazato is a third-year developmental right-handed pitcher. He is currently in the rehabilitation group after undergoing osteosynthesis for a fracture of the shaft of the third metacarpal bone of his right hand on the 5th. Kawaguchi is a right-handed pitcher who joined the team as the 6th pick in the 2024 developmental draft from the Shikoku Island League's Tokushima team. Last season, he earned a spot on the 70-man roster in June and appeared in five games.
