The Orix Buffaloes announced on the 26th that they have notified pitcher Kohei Azuma, pitcher Ryuhei Sotani, pitcher Atsuya Fujikawa, pitcher Kaede Yokoyama, and pitcher Kento Kawase that their standard player contracts will not be renewed for the next season. It was also reported that the team has offered developmental contracts to all five players.

Soya, who was selected for the Japan national team for this spring's WBC, pitched in 14 games and 78 1/3 innings this season, recording 5 wins, 8 losses, and a 4.14 ERA. Following the conclusion of the season, he underwent Tommy John surgery on his left elbow.

Fujikawa joined the Orix Buffaloes as the first-round draft pick in 2025. In his first year this season, he made four appearances on the farm team and maintained an ERA of 0.00, but he underwent Tommy John surgery on his right elbow in August.

Fujikawa, who received a developmental contract offer in his first year, stated, "I want to focus on my rehabilitation and work my way back to the active roster." He also shared that General Manager Junichi Fukura encouraged him, saying, "Don't rush, focus on recovering properly. You'll be playing for the next ten years or more, so please work hard to prepare for that future."

Kawase appeared somewhat perplexed, stating, "The suggestion for a developmental contract comes from the hope that I can be there next year, so I haven't reached an answer yet." He mentioned that he contacted his older brother, Akira Kawase of the Softbank Hawks, last night and received advice to "not give up." He added, "Having my older brother there is my greatest source of strength. I want to consult with my scouting representative before making a decision."
