It was revealed on the 25th that the Orix Buffaloes will dispatch pitcher Ryuga Sato (19), outfielder Yosuke Kubota (19), and others to the Asia Winter League held in Taiwan starting in mid-November. Both are expected to be future stars as a starting left-hander and a regular in the outfield, respectively. The aim is to have them gain practical experience overseas during the off-season to help strengthen the team's overall depth.
Ryu Sato joined the team as a third-round draft pick last year after undergoing medial collateral ligament reconstruction surgery on his left elbow in August 2024 during his second year at Ken-dai Takasaki. This season, he was perfect in the farm league, pitching 6 games and totaling 12 innings with zero runs. His maximum velocity also improved from 147 km/h at the time of joining the pros to 151 km/h. Kubota, the fourth-round pick from the same year, made his debut and appeared in 2 games with the first squad. This season, the team finished in 4th place, marking their first B-class finish in two years. These promising players in both pitching and hitting are gaining a foothold for a major breakthrough.
