SMBC Japan Series 2026 Game 1: DeNA 1-3 Softbank Hawks (11th extra inning) (24th, Yokohama)

Softbank Hawks infielder Yudai Shoji became a hero in his hometown of Yokohama. In the 11th extra inning with the score tied 1-1 and runners on first and second with one out, he hit a game-winning doble over the left fielder. "Before I knew it, I had hit it, and before I knew it, I was on second base," he said with a beaming smile on the hero's podium.

He recorded a .455 batting average in the final stage of the Climax Series, earning the MVP title and a 1 million yen prize. Carrying that momentum into the championship series, he continued to make his presence felt. 'It feels great! The players will give their all to ensure we win again tomorrow,' he said. The 24-year-old, who joined the team as the second-round draft pick in 2024 after attending Yokohama High School and Kanagawa University, is shining brilliantly.
