SMBC Japan Series 2026 Game 1 DeNA vs Softbank Hawks (24th, Yokohama)
Softbank Hawks catcher Yudai Yamamoto received a Hit by Pitch. He started as the number 7 catcher in the first game of the Japan Series against his former team, DeNA. In the 11th extra inning with the score tied 1-1 and one out with a runner on second, the first pitch from the seventh pitcher, Baba, struck his left arm.
He collapsed on the spot, writhing in agony. Unable to get up for a while, he initially retreated to the bench with a trainer. However, after receiving treatment, he ran back to first base to continue playing, drawing applause from the crowd.
With one out and runners on first and second, Shoji hit a go-ahead doble over the left fielder. After he reached third base, pinch runner Ogata was sent in.
