SMBC Japan Series 2026 Game 1 DeNA vs Softbank Hawks (24th, Yokohama)

Softbank Hawks infielder Hotaka Yamakawa appeared as a pinch hitter at the top of the 10th extra inning with the score tied 1-1, but he struck out swinging.

Last year, he won the MVP with a .385 batting average and 37 RBI, including a series-record-tying three consecutive games with a home run from Game 2 to Game 4. However, he fell into a batting slump during this season and was dropped from the starting line-up today as well. During practice the previous day (the 23rd), he had received direct coaching from Team Chairman Sadaharu Oh.

The slugger, who also participated in the Miyazaki Phoenix League after the season ended, hopes to show his presence on the final big stage.
