Osaka University of Commerce outfielder Haruto Haruyama (Tsuruga Kehi) was selected in the third round by the Orix Buffaloes.

In the second round of the All Japan University Baseball Championship in June against Higashi Nippon International University, this right-handed power hitter surprised scouts from all 12 NPB teams by hitting an oversized blast into the middle tiers of Jingu Stadium. On September 27, in a Kansai Six Universities League match against Osaka Gakuin University, he hit his third solo shot of the season in the first inning, marking his 13th career league Home Run. This broke the league record of 12 Home Run set 34 years ago between 1989 and 1992 by his Osaka University of Commerce senior, Takahiro Saeki (formerly of Yokohama and Chunichi). Expectations are high for him as a valuable right-handed slugger.
