2026 Persol Climax Series Pacific League Final Stage Game 2: Softbank Hawks 6-2 Nippon-Ham (15th, Mizuho PayPay)
Nippon-Ham outfielder Chusei Mannami (26) recorded two double plays in a single game, becoming the eighth player to tie the Pacific League record for the Climax Series.
In the first at-bat, after scoring the opening run, he hit into a double play to third base with the bases loaded and no outs. Mizuno, the runner on third, scored to make it the second run, and he reflected, "I thought being struck out would be the worst-case scenario. It was a double play, but since I hit it forward and a run came in, I think I was able to do the absolute bare minimum."
In the fourth inning, with a runner on first and no outs, he hit into a double play to third base. He reflected, 'I really wanted to get a hit in that second at-bat. That was the most critical moment. I feel like the battery outplayed me with their pitch selection, and there weren't many hittable balls... but even so, I want to be able to drive those.' He added with regret, 'Today is definitely frustrating.'
Including the advantage, the Softbank Hawks now have four wins, pushing the team into a situation where there is no turning back. Mannami looked forward, saying, 'We can't even afford a draw. Naturally, we have no choice but to win, and that hasn't changed, but this is truly a do-or-die game that determines whether our season ends or not. I just have to do my absolute best to somehow secure a victory.'
