On the 7th, the Seibu Lions announced that pitcher Trey Wingenter has returned to his home country. Although the team will face Nippon-Ham in the Pacific League CS First Stage at their home stadium, Belluna Dome, starting on the 10th, they will have to compete without the right-hander.
Wingenter commented, "Due to the condition of the inflammation in my elbow, I have decided to give up on returning this season. It is extremely frustrating that I was unable to contribute to the team throughout the season, and I am truly disappointed that I cannot be a source of strength for the team during such important stages as the Climax Series and the Japan Series."
He has already signed a contract for next season and concluded by saying, 'First, I will focus on recovering my physical condition and prepare so that I can welcome next season in perfect shape.'
In his second season in Japan this year, he appeared in 25 games, recording 0 wins, 1 loss, 24 holds, and an ERA of 1.57. He performed exceptionally well, setting a new Pacific League record and tying the professional baseball record with 18 consecutive holds, eventually extending that streak to 20 games.
