On the 7th, the Seibu Lions announced that their 2026 autumn camp will be held at three separate locations: Nango Stadium in Nichinan City, Miyazaki and The Lions training center fielder in Tokorozawa City, Saitama from October 31 to November 17, and Shida Stadium in Izu City, Shizuoka from November 4 to 17. This will be the first time the Seibu Lions hold a camp at Shida Stadium, including spring camps.

Katsuya Nomura, a legendary manager who became the first post-war Triple Crown winner during the Nankai era, was known as a master catcher, and led Yakult to three Japan Series titles, spent the final two years of his playing career (1979, 1980) with the newly formed Saitama Seibu Lions. He is an alumnus of the team.
I was deeply moved to hear that the Seibu Lions will be holding their autumn camp at Shida Stadium, the place where Mr. Nomura poured his heart and soul for three years.
Nomura, who had led the Hanshin Tigers as manager since 1999 but left the professional world after sinking to last place for three consecutive years, put on a uniform once again—the red uniform of the corporate baseball team, Shidax. In the fall of 2002, he accepted an offer from his close ally, Tsutomu Shida, who was the chairman and founder of Shidax at the time.
Shida Stadium was founded in his hometown by Chairman Shida, who is originally from Shizuoka Prefecture. During the 2003 spring camp, Mr. Nomura used this stadium as a stage to instill 'Nomura's Philosophy' into young amateur players. The united team went on to become the runner-up in that year's Intercity baseball Tournament. Shida Stadium is truly the 'sacred ground' where Mr. Nomura, known for his 'Nomura Rehabilitation Factory,' personally revitalized the team.
There is a cross-country course on the nearby mountain trails, where the Shidax pitcher lineup would run until they were exhausted to strengthen their lower bodies. At night, the delicious food from Izu and the hot springs surely healed their tired bodies.
Who will be the young lion to achieve great growth at the 'sacred ground of Nomura baseball'? Mr. Nomura in heaven, as an alumnus, must surely be looking forward to it. (Former Nomura beat reporter, Hiroshi Kato)
