Softbank Hawks announced on the 6th that they have notified pitcher Ryusei Oe, who is on the active roster, as well as developmental pitcher Takehiro Hasegawa, pitcher Hammond, and developmental infielder Shuji Kuwahara, that their contracts will not be renewed for the next season.
Oe joined The Giants as the 6th draft pick in 2016 from Nishogakusha University High School. Along with Akihiro, he joined the team last May through a two-for-one trade involving Richard. That same year, he performed well with a 1.53 ERA in 16 games, but this season he has only appeared in 3 games. Since being removed from the active roster on May 24th, he has continued his adjustments in the farm league.
Hasegawa joined Nippon-Ham as the 6th draft pick in 2021 from Kanazawa Gakuin University. He transferred to the Softbank Hawks through the active player draft in December 2023. In 2024, he contributed to the championship by appearing in a career-high 32 games, recording 4 wins and a 2.49 ERA. In March 2025, he underwent left elbow medial collateral ligament reconstruction surgery (commonly known as Tommy John surgery) and signed a new contract as a developmental player, but he also underwent back surgery in April 2026. He has been continuing his rehabilitation.
Kuwahara appeared in 17 farm league games this season, recording a .222 batting average, 1 Home Run, and 1 RBI. Hammond had been pitching in third-team games. Additionally, the departure of Fumiya Takanami, the third-team outfield defense and base running coach, was also announced.
