On the 31st, Lotte manager Saburo (49) commented on former Seibu Lions manager Kazuo Matsui (50), who was announced as a temporary coach for the first-team spring training camp.
For Coach Saburo, Matsui was one year ahead of him at PL Gakuen, and he had looked up to him since high school. He revealed that even after he turned pro, he "continually received advice" from him. What particularly made an impression on him was what he heard as a young player about how to deal with inside pitches. When he asked, "How should I hit inside pitches?" he was told, "Just leave it alone." Matsui explained, "If you worry about it, your mind and body will react without you realizing it. If that happens, it will make it even harder for you to hit. So don't worry about it. Just leave it alone."
Matsui will also be providing defense instruction while demonstrating practice with the players. The manager said, "He's been through so much. We have a lot of young players, so I hope this will be an opportunity for them to ask him anything." Matsui will be participating from February 5th to 11th.
